Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has left the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), marking a new political direction as parties and leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Wamatangi has ruled out defending his Kiambu gubernatorial seat on a UDA ticket, saying he will instead pursue his re-election bid through another political vehicle.

The governor has not yet revealed the party he intends to join. He has said he will announce his political plans at a later date while urging Kiambu residents to focus on his development record rather than party politics.

Speaking in Limuru, Wamatangi said his decision would be guided by the need to work with a political party that respects both leaders and ordinary citizens.

The governor has also placed his development record at the centre of his expected 2027 re-election campaign. He has cited projects in roads, water, agriculture, healthcare and lighting as key achievements of his administration during his first term.

His departure from UDA comes amid wider political realignments in the Mt Kenya region, where leaders are reassessing their alliances and positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.

Wamatangi has indicated that although he has not publicly named his next party, he already knows the political platform he intends to use.

His next political move is expected to attract attention in Kiambu, where he will seek a second term while competing outside the UDA ticket.

With the 2027 elections approaching, Wamatangi now faces the task of building support under a new political arrangement as he seeks to retain the Kiambu governorship.
