Residents of Teso North Constituency are mourning the demise of pilot Alex Oluka, whose promising aviation career was cut short after he died in a training aircraft crash in Kajiado.

Oluka died on Friday, September 18, 2026, after a Kenya School of Flying aircraft he was aboard crashed in the Kipeto area of Kajiado West.

The young pilot had graduated from the Kenya School of Flying on August 22, just 27 days before the fatal accident. He had subsequently begun working as a flight instructor at the institution.

Oluka was conducting a training flight with a student pilot when the aircraft went down in the hilly Kipeto area. Both occupants died in the accident.

His death has left the Teso North community grieving the loss of a young man whose achievements in aviation had brought pride to his family and the wider community.

Oluka hailed from Kolait Village in Teso North Constituency, Busia County, where his journey into aviation had become a source of pride for those who knew him.

Before pursuing aviation, Oluka attended Kolanya Boys High School, where he reportedly attained an A plain in the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations.

His academic performance provided a strong foundation as he pursued professional pilot training at the Kenya School of Flying.

His graduation in August marked a major milestone in his aviation journey, after which he took up a role as a flight instructor. However, his career was tragically cut short less than a month after his graduation.

Teso North residents and local leaders have expressed grief over the loss, describing Oluka as a promising young professional whose future was only beginning to take shape.

Teso North MP Oku Kaunya described Oluka as a pioneer pilot under the constituency’s National Government Constituency Development Fund programme.

Kaunya also visited the Kajiado County Referral Hospital Mortuary following the accident, where he viewed Oluka’s body alongside officials from the Kenya School of Flying and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations. The remains were later transferred to Chiromo Mortuary in Nairobi.

For residents who had followed Oluka’s journey from his early education to the cockpit, his death has been particularly painful coming so soon after his graduation.

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances that led to the aircraft crash. Kajiado West Sub-County Police Commander Maurine Jepkemboi confirmed the crash in the Kipeto area.

Preliminary reports have pointed to poor visibility caused by morning mist as a possible factor, although investigators have not yet established the definitive cause of the accident.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and other relevant authorities are expected to examine the aircraft, weather conditions and other circumstances surrounding the training flight as part of the investigation.

Oluka’s death has brought an abrupt end to a journey that had taken him from a high-performing student in Teso North to a pilot and flight instructor.

For his family, friends and residents of Teso North, the tragedy represents the loss of a young professional whose aviation career had only just begun.

As the community grieves, attention remains on the ongoing investigation as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
