President William Ruto on Tuesday hosted village elders from across the country at State House, Nairobi, in a meeting focused on strengthening grassroots engagement, promoting national unity and enhancing community leadership.

During the meeting, the President underscored the important role village elders play in fostering peace, resolving community disputes and promoting cohesion at the grassroots level. He said their leadership remains essential in supporting government efforts to build a united and stable nation.

Discussions focused on the country's development agenda, community leadership and the need for closer collaboration between the national government and local leaders. President Ruto urged the elders to continue championing peaceful coexistence, civic responsibility and inclusive development within their communities.

The Head of State also highlighted the government's ongoing investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, affordable housing and agriculture, saying grassroots leaders have a critical role in ensuring communities benefit from these programmes and remain actively involved in national development.

The meeting forms part of the government's broader engagement with community leaders and other stakeholders to strengthen public participation, improve service delivery and promote national cohesion.
