Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has travelled to the United Kingdom for a routine medical check-up, days after making a brief visit to a Nairobi hospital.

ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale confirmed on Thursday that Oburu was in the UK for the medical examination and reassured the public that the veteran politician was doing well.

Etale said Oburu is expected to return to Kenya on Saturday.

The trip follows Oburu’s brief visit to Nairobi Hospital earlier this month, which sparked speculation about his health and reports that he had been admitted for treatment.

Oburu later dismissed the reports, explaining that he had visited the hospital for a general check-up with his doctors before returning home. He also urged the public not to be alarmed by reports concerning his health.

Since the hospital visit, the ODM leader has continued receiving political leaders and other visitors at his Nairobi residence while maintaining communication with party officials and colleagues in the Senate.

The party has described his latest trip as a routine medical assessment and has not indicated that he is seeking treatment for a serious illness.

Oburu remains a prominent figure within ODM and Kenyan politics as parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

He is expected back in Kenya on Saturday, with ODM maintaining that the veteran politician is in good health as he undergoes the medical assessment in the UK.
